Yesterday was a super nice spring day. Me, Mom and Dad were outside for a long time. Mom and Dad were busy with the mower and the John Deere tractor. Well, Mom was sort of busy. Dad was watching and "giving her pointers" on how to drive them. I'm not sure that's a productive use of his time because Mom ignores him a lot.
I got yelled at once for being in the way. Then I was more careful. When Mom yells at me outside, I pay attention. I was paying attention when Mom sneaked off and walked down to chat with Cousin Dave without me, too. I did not like that but apparently what I don't like doesn't matter sometimes.
We were almost finished and were sitting over at the shed, you know, chewing the fat as Dad says. It wasn't real fat, though. I've chewed real fat and it is delicious! I love real fat! What was I saying?
Oh yeah. We were sitting over at the shed. Dad was in his chair and Mom was sitting on the loader. A little gust of wind came along and the umbrella on the sunroom porch sailed over the house! I was too surprised to even bark! All Mom said was she didn't hear any glass break. She went and checked it out while I stayed with Dad. The metal parts of the umbrella were all twisted and bent. Mom said it can't be fixed and she'll have to get a new one.
I hope she means that. I like our little porch. It's our space, me and Mom's. We have good times out there in the evenings and on Saturday and Sunday mornings.
I'm Deuce, and I know even pack members need their own space. And shade. Don't forget to get a new umbrella, Mom!
I'm feeling a lot better today. Friday and Saturday were the pits but when Mom and I got up this morning, I was hungry. I ate two whole cups of my dog food (I get four a day) and a half a can of the fancy digestive stuff Mom got from my vet. I felt pretty perky after that!
Mom and Dad had a few things to finish outside. Dad had to put the battery charger on the Craftsman mower yesterday. Dad took the charger off and Mom started the mower and drove it out and back our lane, then parked it in the shed. I trotted along beside her but I didn't run fast or anything.
Cousin Dave was out in his yard so we went down and said hello to him. Dad checked out the John Deere for something he forgot yesterday and then Mom parked that behind the shed. I didn't mean to do it, but I got in the way a little bit. Dad didn't yell at me. He just looked me in the eye and said MOVE. So I moved. Dad means it when he says MOVE.
Then I helped Mom pick daffodils because it's going to rain. Mom checked the screens in the gutters, too. I don't like it when Mom does that. She gets really high up there on the ladder!
So I'm doing a lot better. Mom says I still have to take all the pills so we can be sure the parasite is dead. I don't mind. The pill is wrapped in a cheese slice.
I think I'll find a comfy spot to watch it rain. My afternoon nap has nothing to do with being sick. I take one every day. Maybe I can convince Mom to take a nap on the bed with me. I'd really like that.
Yesterday, Mom, Dad, and a bunch of people cut down a tree. I got to meet cousin John. He's pretty cool. I like his red polka dot hat.
The tree that needed cut was a big oak. Like, really big. Mom rented a big lift and put Uncle Mike on it. Uncle Mike is fearless. He went up so high - all the way up as far as the lift would go. They didn't ask me if I wanted to ride along and I'm glad they didn't. I would have been scared. At least I didn't have to run away and let them all know that. It would have been embarrassing.
Most of the time I had to watch from in the house. Mom and Dad worried a log might fall on me and they may have been correct. Things falling from the sky isn't something I know to watch for. I got to go out and greet everyone, and then watch while they got the equipment positioned. Then I got to go back outside when Uncle Mike was finished cutting. Best of all, I got to eat lunch with everyone! Mom fixed me two plain hamburgers! I did do a lot of running yesterday. It's hard work keeping an eye on Dad when he's on the John Deere but I'm in really good shape and can run beside him.
I found a bunch of really good sticks while everyone worked. Mom and Aunt Donna played fetch with me. The guys - not so much. They were focused on getting the job done, but Mom knows it's important to make me feel like one of the pack.
Today me, Mom, and Dad are going to burn a brush pile. There's a lot to burn, too. I'd say it's a waste of perfectly big sticks but I know I can find more.
I just hope Mom fixes something good for breakfast. I burned a lot of calories yesterday!
Last Saturday it rained. Mom and Dad teased me, saying it "rained cats and dogs" but there wasn't any cats and dogs that I could find. And I did look!
When it finally stopped raining, Mom and I walked out to see if there any damage to our lane. It's pretty long, which is good for me because I'm allowed to go by myself all the way out to where our section connects to cousin Sean's. I can get some good speed when I run up and down the lane!
The rain washed out a few ruts that Dad had to fix. That's okay because 1) Mom's car could still get over the ruts and 2) Dad has a John Deere tractor.
It was a nice walk, even if it was too short. I couldn't get in the creek. The water was running way too fast and it was very muddy. Mom said no, but I wasn't going in anyway. I am growing up and getting smarter, and I knew it wasn't a good idea.
On the way home, I found a really good stick, too. Mom laughed and took my picture.
I'm Deuce. I'm a smart dog and I know sticks.
