There is always time for a ride!

We've been really busy. Mom says we're in the middle of firewood season. Huh? I thought we had spring, summer, autumn, and winter. Now Mom says there is a fifth one? It's no wonder poor little Deucie, that's me, gets confused.

I think Mom means it's the time of year to split and stack firewood. That's what Mom, Dad, and Cousin Dave have been doing for ages and ages now. It started when the man came back in July and cut down the two big maple trees. I had to stay inside that whole time! Then Mom, Dad, Cousin Dave, and Cousin John cut up those two trees.

But even though we've been working hard, we've had time to go for two long drives. I love going for rides! Especially in Mom's car! Mom's car is the best! The back seat is soooo comfy for me. And I got to ride along to the landfill in the Colorado last week!

Mom told me there were places she'd hoped to visit this summer, but we got too busy. We might get to go now since the outside work is just about done. Mom said we'll have to see what the weather does. She doesn't want to drive in the snow unless she has to.

Having Mom home with me now is a good thing. I like it. I can keep an eye on her. It's a little different because I'm not sure what time we'll go out in the mornings, or if we'll stay up or go back to bed. I vote we should go back to bed but I'm just the dog. Sometimes it's still dark outside and Mom stays up and goes to her computer, and I go back to bed without her. It's okay. I can hear her typing so I know it's all good.

Going for rides is the best fun. I hope we go again soon.

And she let him back in the door

I like it when Mom laughs, so I do things so she will. Sometimes, I don't even know I've done something funny. Like this morning.

I needed to go outside to do...you know... and when Mom opened the door, Loki ran right outside, lickety-split! I'll say one thing about that skanky cat, and that is that he is fast on his little white feet. Anyway, Mom called him to go back inside and he ignored her - so she closed the door.

That did it. Loki got all scared. He's a wimpy creature. I was out in the yard but I heard Mom laugh. Then she got her phone and took some pictures that weren't of me. (I talked to her about that. I AM HER FAVORITE SUBJECT, not that skanky cat.)

When Mom opened the door for me, Loki ran inside and stopped. Then he swatted at me like it was my fault he'd gone outside in the cold.

Stupid cat.

Editor's note: Mom struck through the word "skanky."

Not on my watch

Mom's working from home today. I have her all to myself for three whole days! My plan is to guard her while she's at her desk. Nothing will get past me!

(Note from Mom - I won't get past him to get out, either.)

I'm really happy she's home to spend the day with me. Well, I guess she has to feed that skanky cat but there's nothing I can do about that. Did I tell you that nasty feline smacked me again? I really need to remember to stay away from his tail.

Anyway, Mom's home with me. First thing this morning, even before breakfast, we walked down to the mailbox and back - it's a long way! Mom says down and back is a quarter of mile. I don't know how she expects me to walk three miles at a time by the end of June, but I heard her tell Dad I'd be strong enough to do it by then. I trust her. Besides, she makes it sound like it will be a lot of fun!

Afternoon naps

I love my puppy day bed. It's soooooo comfortable!

Mom keeps it in her office because she likes to keep an eye on me. I don't mind because I like to keep an eye on her, too. Except when I'm sleeping. Then I just listen to her type.

Mom says I'll need a bigger one soon but I don't want one. I want to learn how to sleep in her reading chair. I'm sure I can convince her it will be fine even though she says I can't.

I'll wear her down.
