New Year's again? How many are there?

Mom and Dad told me it was New Year's Day. Did we just have a New Year's Day like, you know, last year? How often does this happen? And if today is the Day, wasn't last night the party night? New Year's Eve? I kinda wonder because New Year's Eve is noisy around here. Humans go crazy with shotguns and fireworks and car horns. Not last night. I heard ONE gunshot. Mom and I went outside to see who was barking and it was quiet and I didn't get to bark and tell everyone to shut up. (They listen to me, don't you know.) And foggy! I've never seen such thick fog. It was weird.

Mom and I are going over our blog entries for 2022, and I'm not a happy dog. Mom didn't help me blog hardly at all last year. I made her promise to do better in this new year. I know she's right and we've just been doing mundane things, but I'm Deuce! Everything I do is blog worthy!

Get with the program, Mom. You tell me I'm the best dog ever and then you don't keep my blog current. I might start to think you like Loki better than you like me, and that won't do. That won't do at all.

So it's a new year and I'm willing to give Mom a new start. My birthday is in two weeks, and there had better be a blog.

Just saying, Mom. Juuuuuust saying.....

Mom had all my blogs put together

I learned that we've been blogging together for almost five years. That's like my whole life! It's a pretty cool way for me and Mom to remember the important things we've done together. And the fun stuff, too!

Understanding how it all works is Mom's job. I just get to be me and we like it that way. Mom's a writer and she gets to be herself when she blogs. Dad's job is to reason things out and tell us which end of which cable goes in which slot to make the television work. Loki's job is to catch vermin.

Okay. Now Mom is staring at me so I need to get serious. My job is to look out for Mom and Dad, especially on a walk.

I'd better get back on topic so I can get a snackie when we're finished blogging.

We started Deuce's Day to record my life. Mom says I'm probably the only dog she'll have all her memories of recorded. Mom talked about her other dogs, the ones that came before me, over at her writing blog. Some of it is pretty sad but sometimes a dog's life is sad.

Anyway, Mom went to this place online called Blog to Print and they put all my blogs through the end of 2020 into one .pdf for only $10! Now we don't have to worry about losing the history of everything we've done together.

Mom and Dad told me we've started a new year. It doesn't feel any different. My birthday is coming up and I'll be five. Time really does fly when you're having fun!

Time flies when we go for a walk, too. What do you say, Mom? Think we can get outside today?

Stop and smell the lilies

Mom works really hard. She leaves the house about seven o'clock in the morning and doesn't get home until about five in the afternoon. I really miss her during the day, but she says "no work, no buy puppy chow." I like puppy chow so I guess it's a good thing Mom has a job.

When Mom's home on the weekends, she says we have to stop and smell the roses.

Well, I did that. Roses have thorns and I do not like thorns. They hurt my nose. But today I discovered that lilies smell good, too. And they don't have thorns!

Mom is really happy about this lily. It's the only one the deer didn't eat the buds. Next year, when I'm full grown, the deer had better watch out for me.

I'll protect the lilies.

I'm Deuce, and this is MY yard!

Pool time!!!!

I had so much fun in my pool today that Mom took a video of me. I splashed and splashed for a long time. I even tried to sit in the water, but that felt really funny so I didn't.

Hmm. When I did that, Mom and Dad talked about the snip-snip again. I bet there's a connection.

Not again!

Does this look like my happy face?

It started out to be such a great day. Mom was up early and we went outside. I wanted to play in the puddles but Mom asked me to wait, so I did.

I was glad I listened because I got to go back to bed with Mom and Dad for an hour. Mom's right. I do take up more room now.

Then Dad got up early for a Saturday. I should have sensed something was afoot. When Mom put my special training collar on me, I thought we were going to class, but nooooo. I heard Dad say "vet" and I knew.

More needles. I do not like needles. I don't care how much beef jerky the vet gives me, I do not like needles. I don't like them cutting my nails, either, but the girl was quick.

The good news is I don't have to have any more shots for a whole year! The vet petted me and said I looked good. I looked at Mom and rolled my eyes. Mom knows I'm a handsome lad.

Once we were back home, she let me off the leash and I ran for the water puddle! It was worth the wait! I splashed around like a big dog and made Mom laugh. I am a Labrador Retriever. We like water.  Mom didn't even fuss me for dripping on the floor.

But what's this "snip-snip" everyone is talking about? I don't get it.
