Today is my fourth birthday! I know because Mom told me. She keeps track of everything about me to keep me safe, happy, and most importantly, well-fed.
Food is good! I love food! Especially people food, but Mom watches me like a hawk whenever I get people food. Hey Mom! It's my birthday! Can I ask least have a little lick of chocolate??????
Maybe not. I got the stink-eye on that request.
ANYWAY.... today is my birthday. Being four means I've been grown up for a while now. I know lots of stuff. Mom says I'm really smart, but I'm just me.
We were looking at some pictures of me as I was growing to share today. I was quite a handsome lad, wasn't I? There's a picture from my first night in my forever home, the first night I slept on the bed with Mom, and me in my orange safety vest. Mom says that's one of her all-time favorite pictures of me. We had a lot of fun on our walk that day.
I'm not sure what being four will be like, but as long as I'm still in the pack and we're all looking out for each other, it will be a good year.
Now... where is my birthday cake?
Mom says today is my birthday! I'm TWO! I can't read the calendar but I'm sure Mom is correct. She has my birth certificate and keeps track everything in a notebook.
Two doesn't feel any different from one and a bunch of days. But then there was breakfast.
I love breakfast on my birthday! Pancakes! Bacon! Eggs! Sausage! Dad fixed us what he called a "farmhouse" breakfast because it was my birthday. (Mom said good - she won't have to cook today.) Anyway, I had a whole pancake with butter, two pieces of crispy bacon, a sausage link, and a whole egg! I love breakfast! Breakfast is the best!
Mom says I can't have anything but dog food for at least a week now. I'd rather celebrate my birthday EVERY day! I hate to admit it, but I guess Mom is right. It's okay to splurge on my birthday but then I have to be mindful I get the right protein for a dog.
Mom says it's too cold outside to take me for a long walk so she and Dad plan to play ball and Frisbee a lot today. That's a good birthday present, too. I'll chase the ball until my paws get cold. And speaking of paws, mine is much, much better. It doesn't seem to hurt at all now and I've been doing some running on it.
Being two means I really am all grown up. I'm who I'm always going to be now. Mom says I'm independent, loving, energetic, friendly, a good observer, entertaining, obedient, and intelligent. That's a lot of words to describe little ol' me. I can sum it up in two words.
I'm Deuce!
Yesterday was my first birthday, and Mom and Dad spoiled me all day long. It was kinda difficult to do, too, because the weather was nasty. It was cold and icy, with sleet coming down. We didn't get to go to town.
Since it was too wet to go outside and play, I took my spot on Mom's bed. From my spot, I can watch out the window. There wasn't much to see because of the sleet, but I was nice and comfy and my paws stayed dry.
Mom and Dad said we needed a birthday cake. I'm not sure what that is, but I know what pancakes are. I love, love, love pancakes! And since it was my birthday, I got more than a single bite. I got a whole pancake! With butter! And I got to lick the plates for a change. So that was my birthday cake. I liked it.
Mom and I did get to go outside later in the afternoon and play ball. That was fun. Mom got cold but I didn't mind it much.
Then I got chicken for dinner. That was really good. Dad didn't like it much. I heard Mom tell him a little bit of spinach wouldn't hurt him, but he whined worse than me.
It was nice to have Mom home with me and Dad for my first birthday. I got lots of treats, I napped in Mom's office with her while she worked on a story instead of helping me blog. I guess being one means understanding she sometimes has work to do.
I got lots of food and treats - more than usual. But all-in-all, a birthday is kinda like any other day. Now I have to figure out how to behave like a dog and not a puppy. That might be tough, but I'm Deuce! I can do it!
