Writers can be sneaky

Mom does a lot of different things after she takes care of me and Dad. And Loki. Jeez, can't forget to mention that skanky cat or Mom will fuss me. One of the things Mom does is something she calls writing. That's not something I can help her with.

When Mom is writing, I like to sleep under her desk. If she's wearing soft slippers, she'll rest her feet on me, or sometimes snuggle her bare toes beneath me. We like that. It's our thing. I like because I'll know immediately if she is leaving her desk. It's my job to keep an eye on her, you know.

Mom's writing has been on something called a hiatus, but she's getting back to it. This week she's looking over a couple of older manuscripts that she found some mistakes in. Mom can curse like a sailor sometimes but as long as she's not slinging the f-bomb at me, we're good.

Last night, she worked at writing while I took a nap on the bed. It rained earlier and I was bored, and a nap is a good cure for that. So I was asleep and Mom snuck out the door to our little porch without me! I did not like this. It might have been my fault because I wasn't under her desk, but I'll bet Mom did it on purpose.

So now I have a new spot to nap - in front of the door blocking the exit.

I'm Deuce and I'm not dumb. I got this all figured out. Mom won't get out the door without me again.

Watching tv with Mom

Dad took a picture of me on the loveseat with Mom. We were watching the Artful Detective. Mom doesn't allow me up on the sofa very often. We were talking to each other and she invited me up.

Well, she talks. I make funny dog sounds. But we understand each other. It's all good fun.

Dad took the picture, but there wasn't enough light so it's grainy. He tried a couple shots with the flash but I look like a devil dog with glowing eyes.

It was nice to spend a few minutes being close to Mom, but there's not much room on the loveseat. Don't tell her, but sometimes when she's a work I take my afternoon nap on it.

I'm Deuce. I know when to be sneaky, and that's when Mom's not watching.

I yielded to temptation - and got away with it

It seems I was "mischievous" last night. Mom and Dad laughed at me and I heard them say it was really Mom's fault. She accepted the responsibility and I didn't get fussed at all.

Mom took a picture a little while ago so I could explain. And fuss her for a change.

See my boney on the dining room table? See it lying so close to the edge I can see it? I've got long legs and a long reach. That's my boney and when I saw it on the table, I simply reached over and got it.

Okay, so I know better than to stick my nose on the table. But Mom and Dad weren't eating. And it was my boney. I'm a smart dog. And slick, too. I didn't make a sound.

Mom told me I got away with one, and so I did. I bet she'll never leave my boney on the edge of the table again.

I'm Deuce. I'm a good dog. I'll get Mom trained one of these days.

The Big Chair

I seem to have lost my day bed. Mom keeps telling me I dragged it into her bedroom but I don't remember doing that.

Who needs a dog bed, anyway? Mom has this really nice chair in her study. When I was younger, I sat on her lap in that chair and helped her read. I think it should be okay for me to sleep in the chair while she writes.

But Mom says no, and she's the pack leader. She says I wouldn't mean to do it but that I'd punch holes in it

She found my day bed and brought it back to her study. Then she threatened me with a time-out and she means it when she says that.

I really, really, really want to sleep in the big chair, though. I'll wear her down. Maybe.
